At the beginning of this month, Freightliner announced that the fifth generation Cascadia 8-class heavy-duty truck is officially open for ordering. This cooperation coincides with eight months after the mass production of Cummins X15N engine - the first product of Cummins HELM engine platform. Each engine on the HELM platform is specially developed and optimized for specific fuel types such as natural gas, diesel, or hydrogen to meet the diverse needs of customers.
The nitrogen oxide emission certification value of X15N engine is 50mg, which is a model designed specifically for natural gas power. Compared to Cummins' 12- liter natural gas engine, its fuel economy has improved by up to 10% under similar ratings and operating conditions.
Cummins stated that the X15N can provide the required performance, durability, and power performance for heavy and special operations scenarios, making it an ideal choice for fleets to significantly reduce their carbon footprint. This engine can be paired with other powertrain components of Cummins to achieve better emission control than a single engine through system synergy.

The fifth generation Freightliner Cascadia made its debut at the annual management meeting of the American Trucking Association last fall. The model equipped with Cummins X15N engine will start mass production this summer.
The X15N engine will be compatible with the Cascadia model with a 126-inch (approximately 3.2 meters) wheelbase, offering two configurations: a sleeper cab and a flat cab. In addition, for the installation of compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel tanks on the frame and rear of the cab, manufacturers will provide optional frame drilling and pre-processing solutions to meet customers' personalized needs for range.
